2002 ASG North Team roster


The North Team roster for the 2002 All-Star Game, to be played Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT:


Starting Lineup
John Grant, Rochester (F): Paced Rochester in points scored, 105 (52 goals, 53 assists), finishing third overall... led Knighthawks in goals (52) and assists (53), en route to team's 13-3 record this season... named Second Team All-Pro.
Colin Doyle, Toronto (F): Posted career bests in goals (47) and points (80) this season, leading all Toronto scorers... fourth on Rock in assists (33), falling four shy of career high for one season... named Championship Game MVP (three goals, one assist in 13-12 win at Albany)... named Second Team All-Pro.
Chris Gill, Vancouver (F): Scored 53 goals this season for Vancouver, finishing one short of the league lead... led the Ravens in points scored (90)... named Player of the Month for February... helped lead Ravens to playoff berth in franchise's first season... named Second Team All-Pro.
Pat Coyle, Toronto (D): Led Toronto defense to league-fewest 176 goals allowed this year... regularly drew the assignment of defending the opposition's top forward... scooped up 109 loose balls this season, third-best on Rock... recorded four goals and twelve assists this season... named Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Pro.
Jim Veltman, Toronto (D): Led the league in loose balls recovered (203) for the tenth straight season in which he has played... sixth-leading scorer for Rock this season, with 53 points (16 goals, 37 assists)... selected as recipient of first-annual NLL Sportsmanship Award.
Bob Watson, Toronto (G): Posted 9-3 record and 76.44 save percentage for Rock this season... Led NLL goaltenders with 11.54 goals-against average... leading vote-getter in online All-Star Game balloting (1220 of 3334 ballots).


Reserves
Tracey Kelusky, Montreal (F): Scored 94 points this season (44 goals, 50 assists), sixth-best in the NLL... named Player of the Month for November/December... scored game-winning goal in each of Express' first three victories... First Team All-Pro selection.
Ryan Painter, Ottawa (F): Scored 45 goals, best on the Rebel, and dished out 21 assists this season... his eye-popping twenty power-play goals this season was tops in the NLL... named to All-Rookie Team.
Peter Morgan, Vancouver (F): Tallied 32 goals and 35 assists in just twelve games, joining the Ravens after quitting the Simon Fraser University basketball team)... of the Ravens' ten wins, he scored the game-winner four times... named to All-Rookie Team.
Steve Toll, Toronto (F): The king of the transition game this season, scored 26 goals and dished out 39 assists this season... his 65 points was good for third-best on the Rock... led the NLL in shorthanded goals, seven, and was second on the Rock in loose balls with 125, behind only Veltman.
Kaleb Toth, Calgary (F): The leading point-scorer for the Roughnecks this season (79), tacked up 38 goals and 41 assists... scored thirteen special teams goals, nine on the power play and four shorthanded... native of Calgary, acquired from Toronto in preseason trade.
Shawn Williams, Rochester (F): Second-leading scorer on Knighthawks this season, with 75 points... finished second on team in goals, with 40... led Knighthawks in power-play goals, thirteen, and shorthanded goals, four.
Derek Malawsky, Rochester (F): Third-leading scorer on the team (72 pts)... second on K'Hawks in assists (47)... scored two game-winning goals... set single-game record with eleven assists vs. Buffalo (5 January).
Bruce Codd, Montreal (D): Led Express in loose balls recovered, 197, placing second in the NLL... dished out 36 assists this season... his 45 points were good for third-most on the Express.
Darren Reisig, Vancouver (D): Scooped up 94 loose balls for the Ravens this season... scored eight goals and assisted on eight others... one of first two players signed by the team (goalie Jeff Gombar was the other).
Mike Hasen, Rochester (D): Veteran defender recovered 110 loose balls this season, third-most among K'Hawks players... scored one goal and dished out eleven assists this season... played in '99 All-Star Game in front of hometwon fans, just weeks after being acquired from Buffalo.
Dwight Maetche, Vancouver (G): Anchored a better-than-expected Ravens defense to a 10-6 record and a playoff berth in the franchise's first season... second in NLL in goals against average (11.77) and fourth in league in save percentage (76.97)... Second Team All-Pro selection.
Pat O’Toole, Rochester (G): Appeared in all sixteen Knighthawks games this season, compiling 12-3 record... posted 77.49 save percentage and 12.72 goals against average... scored goal on 12 January against Albany, becoming first goalie in league history to score twice in his career.


Coaching Staff
Les Bartley, Toronto (head coach): Led Rock to third NLL title in four years (1999, 2000, 2002)... six-time league champion as coach, including wins with Buffalo Bandits in 1992, 1993, and 1996... only man to coach 100 regular season games, has compiled a 93-37 mark (including 16-4 in playoffs)... eleven seasons as MILL/NLL head coach, five with Toronto (originally Ontario Raiders).
Paul Dal Monte, Vancouver (asst): Won final seven regular-season games to finish 10-6 in Ravens' debut season... lost at Rochester in quarterfinal round, 11-10 in overtime.
Paul Day, Rochester (asst): Skippered Knighthawks to franchise-best 13-3 record this season... has compiled career record of 48-26 (3-5 in playoffs)... served as head coach of Team Canada in 1999 All-Star Game (Canada won, 25-24, in overtime).
