2002 ASG South Team roster


The South Team roster for the 2002 All-Star Game, to be played Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT:


Starting Lineup
Paul Gait, Washington (F): led the NLL in points scored this season (114), his twelfth and final campaign... led NLL in goals scored (60)... his eighteen power plays goals and four shorthanded tallies were good enough for second and fourth, respectively (he led Power in in both)... named Most Valuable Player and a First Team All-Pro.
Gary Gait, Washington (F): Finished second in points scored this season (111), behind brother Paul... posted 50 goals in a season for third time in career... led Power in assists (61)... First Team All-Pro selection for twelfth consecutive season.
Josh Sanderson, Albany (F): Set a new league record for assists in a season (68)... finished fourth in scoring, with 103 points... led Attack in assists and points, and was fourth in goals... second All-Pro selection (first First-Team selection).
Cam Woods, Albany (D): Scooped up 113 loose balls this season, behind only fellow All-Stars Rob Blasdell and Jim Moss on Attack... scored eight goals and dished out fifteen assists in 2001-2002.
Paul Cantabene, Washington (D): Recovered 163 loose balls for Power, second only to goaltender Devin Dalep... posted a faceoff percentage of 57.70 (191 wins, 140 losses)... tied for fourth-most points on team this season, with 58 (18 goals, 40 assists).
Rob Blasdell, Albany (G): Led the NLL in wins (13), saves (644) and minutes played (934)... placed second in save percentage (77.50) and third in goals against average (12.01)... led Albany to first-ever NLL Champion's Cup final (13-12 loss to Toronto)... named Goaltender of the Year and a First Team All-Pro.


Reserves
Gary Rosyski, Albany (F): Led Attack in goals scored this season, 44... second on team in assists (41) and power play goals (11)... scored four game-winning goals this season.
Roy Colsey, Buffalo (F): Scored 47 goals and handed out 29 helpers this season... played seventeen games in a sixteen-game season due to trade from New York... scored 14 power play goals in '01-'02.
John Tavares, Buffalo (F): Scored 88 points (42 goals, 46 assists) this season to lead Buffalo's scorers and place eighth leaguewide... led Bandits in power play goals (14) and shorthanded goals (5)... Second Team All-Pro selection for first time in career, after eight appointments to First Team.
Gewas Schindler, Columbus (F): Led Landsharks in goals (33), assists (33) and points (66) this season... scored seven power play goals... Columbus' only All-Star Game representative.
Gavin Prout, New York (F): Led all rookies in scoring this season, with 82 points (30 goals, 52 assists)... led Saints in scoring... named Rookie of the Month for February... first-overall pick in August 2001 entry draft... selected to All-Rookie and Second team All-Pro squads.
Kevin Finneran, Philadelphia (F): Tallied 39 goals and 40 assists this season... scored eleven goals on the power play... holds NLL record for consecutive games played, 138, spanning twelve seasons.
Tom Marechek, Philadelphia (F): Led Wings in assists (53) and points (98), placing fifth in the NLL in the latter category... posted ten power play goals and a team-best three shorthanded tallies... two-time NLL Overall Player of the Week... scooped up 87 loose balls this season, fourth-best on Wings.
Jim Moss, Albany (D): Scooped up 127 loose balls this season, second-best on Attack... contributed nine goals and twelve assists at the offensive end... scored three shorthanded goals.
Jamie Hanford, New Jersey (D): Posted a faceoff percentage of 54.82 (233-192), taking nearly every Storm draw this season... scored seven goals and nine assists this season... Storm's only representative at All-Star Game.
Pat McCabe, New York (D): Scooped up a Saints-best 142 loose balls in '01-'02... tallied two goals and nine assists this season... Saints captain since 1996.
Steve Dietrich, Buffalo (G): Recorded a 77.10 save percentage and a 12.35 goals against average in fifteen games this season for the Bandits... dished out twelve assists... was a career Rochester Knighthawk until trade to Buffalo last spring.
Dallas Eliuk, Philadelphia (G): In eleven games, posted a 14.03 goals against average and a 74.12 save percentage... Still one of NLL's most-popular goaltenders, garnering 1125 votes (of 3334) in online ASG balloting (most among South Team players)... Started in goal for Team Canada in 1999 All-Star Game at Rochester.


Coaching Staff
Bob McMahon, Albany (head coach): In first season as head coach of Attack, led team to league-best 14-2 record and first postseason berth in franchise history... defeated Rochester in semifinal round, 14-10, before losing at home to Toronto, 13-12, for NLL Champion's Cup... named NLL's Coach of the Year.
Darris Kilgour, Washington (asst): Led Power to 9-7 record and Eastern Division championship this season... defeated Philadelphia in quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Toronto at Air Canada Centre, in double overtime... compiled 19-18 record (1-2 in playoffs) in two seasons as Power coach... won three titles as player with Buffalo Bandits ('92, '93, and '96)
Adam Mueller, Philadelphia (asst): Head coaching rookie, skippered Wings out of 1-3 start to 8-8 record... qualified for playoffs on a tiebreaker, extending Philadelphia's record for consecutive seasons with a playoff berth to eleven... won MILL/NLL titles with Wings as player in 1998 and assistant coach in 2001.
