Wings Attacked by Rosyski in 20-16 lossDefending champs drop opener as Albany star gets 10 pointsTom Hoffman Outsider's Guide Game Correspondent Led by a ten-point night from Game MVP Gary Rosyski, the Albany Attack spoiled the coaching debut of Adam Mueller by handing the Philadelphia Wings a 20-16 defeat in front of a crowd of 3,114 at the Pepsi Arena. Although this was Philadelphia's season opener, it was the third for the Attack and the play clearly showed it, as Albany seemed more cohesive than the Wings, especially in the offensive area of play. The Attack (2-1) opened scoring at 6:05 of the first on a Rosyski power play goal. The Wings countered with a man-up goal from Kevin Finneran, tying the game. The Attack, who never trailed in the game, took turns with Wings on scoring goals in the first quarter, ending it with a 3-3 tie. Albany opened the second quarter with three goals in the first 3:38 to take a 6-3 lead. Jason Clark and Ryan Traynor then pulled the Wings to within a goal, but goals by Mike Ladouceur and Mike Regan gave the Attack another three goal cushion. Jeff Ratcliffe's goal at 13:49 made the halftime score 8-6 in favor of the hometown Attack. Shots on goal for the first half were even at 28, with both Albany's Rob Blasdell and Philadelphia's Dallas Eliuk playing well in goal. The Wings looked as if they were going to own the third quarter when Jake Bergey and Tom Marechek scored in the first three minutes to tie the score at 8-8. Goals by Rosyski and Dan Teat regained the lead for Albany, but two more Jake Bergey goals pulled the Wings even at ten. This pattern continued on the next four goals, Nick Trudeau and Brian Biesel scoring for Albany, Kevin Finneran and Tom Phair for the Wings. After another exchange of goals tied the match at thirteen, the Attack used a pair of Gary Rosyski goals to take a 15-13 lead into the final period. The Attack only needed twenty-one seconds to increase the lead to three goals, when Nick Trudeau scored his second of the game. Three times, the Wings moved to within two, but were never able to get any closer, and when Rosyski scored his fifth goal with 2:44 remaining, that appeared to seal the game. Rob Blasdell had other ideas, though, and with Eliuk out of the net, Blasdell fired the ball the length of the rink into the empty net, á là Ron Hextall, to join Ted Sawicki, Devin Dalep and Pat O'Toole as goal-scoring goaltenders. Rosyski led all scorers with five goals and five assists while Josh Sanderson added a goal and six assists for Albany. Tom Marechek had a goal and five assists for the Wings, while Jake Bergey tacked on four goals and an assist. Albany will travel to the Meadowlands on Saturday, 8 December for a rematch with its home-opening foe of two weeks ago, the New Jersey Storm, while the Wings look for their first victory of the new season in Vancouver on Sunday, 9 December.
