'Sharks rally, top Ravens, 12-11Powless scores 64 seconds into OT for comeback winR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief As more than a few wags said Friday night, looking at what the flu did to the Columbus Landsharks, more NLL teams should try to catch it. After a week in which much of the team suffered from the illness, the Columbus Landsharks rallied to defeat the Vancouver Ravens in overtime, 12-11, Friday night at Nationwide Arena. The game got off to a fast start that quickly proved to be a slow one instead. Kyle Arbuckle scored sixty-nine seconds into the game, and just when you thought there'd be a run of offense, that goal proved to be the lone scoring play of the quarter. Gewas Schindler doubled the score to 2-0 before the second quarter was even a minute old, but it didn't last long. Chris Gill, Craig Stevenson, Peter Morgan and Chris Prat struck on a four-goal Ravens run, giving Vancouver a lead which, except for a 47-second span in the third quarter, it would not relinquish until late in regulation. In the third quarter, the teams played to a 4-4 tie, with two goals apiece by Ravens captain Darren Reisig and the Landsharks' Kasey Beirnes. The fourth quarter, however, wasn't the back-and-forth period which the third quarter was. Prat and Gill struck within two minutes of each other to give the Ravens an 11-8 lead early in the fourth quarter. The 'Sharks, though, patiently looked for goals, finding them from Spencer Martin, Beirnes, and Schindler, all the while holding the Ravens scoreless to bring the match all square. Just a minute and four seconds into overtime, on the first shot of extra innings, Neal Powless pushed the ball past Vancouver goaltender Dwight Maetche for his second goal of the night. "It was a goal that we got by running," the game-winning scorer said. "We knew we had to do that in transition."Both goaltenders -- Maetche for the Ravens and Phil Wetherup for Columbus -- stopped 37 shots in the game. At the offensive end, Arbuckle led all scorers with six points, but it was teammates Beirnes and Schindler who registered hat tricks, as did Gill for Vancouver.
