Attack ties records in 20-15 win at ColumbusAlbany matches league bests in wins in season, wins in rowR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Dan Teat scored four goals and Gary Rosyski bagged three of his own as the Albany Attack adavanced to a league-best 12-2 record in defeating the Columbus Landsharks, 20-15, Saturday night at Nationwide Arena. The twelve-win campaign matches the league's record for wins in a season, including postseason, set by the 1998 Philadelphia Wings and matched by the 2001 Toronto Rock. The Attack is also on an eight-game winning streak, tying the single-season regular-season mark set by the 1993 Buffalo Bandits in the middle of their twenty-two-game winning streak which spanned from 1992 to 1994. Albany's win didn't come easily at first, though. Rosyski opened the game's scoring just thirty seconds in, but Spencer Martin and Gewas Schindler combined to give the Landsharks a brief 2-1 lead. By the end of the first quarter, Columbus had erased a 5-3 deficit to reach all-square at five goals per side. The second quarter, though, was a different matter entirely. Nick Trudeau scored twice to launch a six-goal Albany run, during which Rosyski, Jamie Grimoldby, Josh Sanderson and Cam Woods also scored. Cory Kahoun halted the run, making the score 11-6, but the Attack soon picked up another pair, from Mike Regan and Mark Cochrane. A late goal from Schindler cut the deficit to six at intermission, 13-7. The second half started off much the same way the first half ended -- Albany, Albany, and, oh, some more Albany for good measure. With an Attack of almost biblical proportions, an opening goal from Grimoldby begat a strike from Regan, which begat one from Teat, which begat one from Shaydon Santos, which begat one from Rosyski. If not for a goal from Kahoun, the 'Sharks would have drowned in a 5-0 shutout period. As it stood after forty-five minutes, Columbus trailed by a mere ten goals, 18-8. The NLL being what it is, not even a ten-goal lead with fifteen minutes to play can be considered safe. Indeed, it wasn't, as it was the Landsharks' offense which found teeth in the fourth quarter. Martin and Kyle Jamieson opened the quarter, followed in time by Niall Maynard's first career goal and Kahoun's hat trick strike, drawing Columbus to within five, at 19-14, with seven minutes to play. Cam Woods soon scored for Albany, and Attack goaltender Rob Blasdell held the Landsharks at bay until a goal from Schindler with less than two minutes to play. It was Schindler's fourth goal of the night, but unfortunately for the home side, it was also his last -- and the last for any Landshark. In all, Blasdell stopped 32 of 47 shots on goal, while at the opposite end, Mike Miron (20 saves on 33 shots) and Chris Levis (22 saves on 29 shots) split time between the pipes for Columbus.
