Rob Blasdell stopped 35 of 42 shots and added an empty net goal late in the game, propelling the Albany Attack to an 11-7 victory Friday night over the Columbus Landsharks.

Columbus struck first, on a goal by Jamie Taylor, but before the end of the first quarter, the Attack had a 4-1 advantage, courtesy of Josh Sanderson, Gary Rosyski, Jim Moss, and Mike Regan.

The Landsharks scored the first two goals of the second quarter -- from Kasey Beirnes and Gewas Schindler -- both on the power play. However, in the last four minutes of the first half, Dan Teat and Sanderson struck with man-up goals of their own, and the Attack took a 6-3 lead to intermission.

After the break, the Landsharks narrowed the deficit to 6-5 on goals by Taylor in the fourth minute and Pat Maddalena in the eleventh.

However, Sanderson prevented Columbus from getting the equalizer by scoring a power play goal. Taylor brought the game back to one-goal territory, though, by scoring in the last minute of the third quarter.

Rosyski opened the final period with a power play strike after just 84 seconds, as Rodney Tapp watched from the penalty box. Regan scored five minutes later, for a solid 9-6 lead.

However, Schindler scored just inside of five minutes to play, and Columbus had new life. Unable to get any closer in five-on-five play, the Landsharks pulled goaltender Mike Miron.

With an empty net at the other end, Blasdell bombed a shot end-to-end for a goal, with nine seconds to play. Shaydon Santos followed seven seconds later.

Blasdell's goal was the second of his career, following a long-distance strike against Philadelphia in December 2001. He joins Ted Sawicki, Devin Dalep, and Pat O'Toole as the only goaltenders in league history to score a goal.
