Attack stays alive with 12-8 win over RavensAlbany avoids elimination; Vancouver drops chance to all but clinchR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Four players scored twice each Saturday night as the Albany Attack staved off elimination in a 12-8 win over the Vancouver Ravens at Pepsi Arena. An announced crowd of 4,376 was on hand for what might have been the final NLL game in the Capital Region, as the Attack kept alive its dying playoff chances and, at the same time, denied the Ravens the chance to all but clinch a wild card spot. Coming in, the game had the potential to look like a old-fashioned Mann Cup game, with the Ontario-loaded Attack and WLA-heavy Ravens perfectly capable of delivering a 6-5 thriller. For the entire first half, the teams went along with that plan. Chris Gill scored in the second minute, giving the Ravens the quick lead, but Mike Regan and Dan Teat took it away with goals 27 seconds apart in the sixth minute. Dan Stroup tied the game at two with a power play marker at 14:41. The game stayed level until less than two minutes remained in the half, when Grant Hamilton put the Ravens ahead, 3-2. However, a Gary Rosyski goal with eight second left before intermission evened the game again. The offense picked up in the third quarter, with each side scoring a goal in the first three and a half minutes. Vancouver's Bruce Alexander struck first, at 1:09, followed two minutes later by Shaydon Santos. The pattern repeated within two minutes -- Stroup and Regan -- and the game was tied, 5-5. However, Nick Trudeau broke the deadlock with an even-strength goal at 7:47, and Brock Robertson opened up some breathing room several minutes, scoring a power play goal to end the quarter at 7-5 in favor of the Attack. The impressive defensive play -- particular Vancouver's -- disappeared in the fourth quarter, with Albany scoring three times in a minute and a half midway through the quarter. The Teat-Santos-Cam Woods triple play, which began shortly after Rosyski and Mike Law swapped goals, gave Albany a commanding 11-6 lead with just under six minutes to play. Vancouver battled back to within striking distance in the twelfth minute, when Stroup and Gill connected 30 seconds apart. That was as close as the Ravens could come, though, with Albany netminder Rob Blasdell holding off the remaining Vancour shots and Jim Moss finally sealing victory with a goal in the final minute. Rosyski recorded a game-high six points, on two goals and four assists, while Gill paced the Ravens with four points (two goals, two assists). With two games left on the league's regular-season schedule, both of them tomorrow, Albany still has a shot at the playoffs. That will require Vancouver to lose at New Jersey and Colorado to lose at Toronto. To qualify for a second straight postseason, the Ravens need only to win, although a Colorado victory also would do the trick.
