United States, Canada tied atop World Box Games standingsCanada edges Iroquois Nationals in marquee matchup; USA rocks AustraliaR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief A rundown of the action during Day Two of the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, held Friday at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium in Oshawa, Ontario. Scotland evens record by beating Czechs Scotland improves to 1-1 with the win, while the Czechs fall to 0-2. The Scots, who will play four of their five round-robin games in the noon slot, struggled early and traded goals en route to a 3-2 lead after one quarter. However, Scotland opened a comfortable advantage by scoring all three goals of the second quarter, then winning the third period by a commanding 5-1 score. Starting goaltender Jiri Malina then yielded way to Milan Tulacek, but the backup could not rally the Czechs. Scotland scored four more goals in the fourth quarter, while Derek Collins pitched another shutout period at the other end of the floor. Teat led all scorers with four goals and two assists, while Hobbs was a step behind at four and one. Patrik Prochazka (1 goal, 1 assist) and Simom Vit (2 assists) had two points each for the Czechs. Collins, who went the distance for his first win of the tournament, stopped 28 of 31 shots he faced. Malina fell to 0-2 despite a reasonable 26 saves on 37 shots. Both teams face sizzling offenses their next time out. Sunday at noon, Scotland meets the United States, and at 7:30 the same day, the Czech Republic matches up with Canada.

Americans kick 'Roos, 22-4 The Americans scored the first twelve goals of the game, never looking back on their way to a 2-0 record in round-robin play. Australia falls to 0-2. Between the Yankees and Aussies, 47 minutes worth of penalties were assessed, leading to plenty of power play chances. It led to plenty of shorthanded chances, too, as Scott Joyner and Chris Panos scored 37 seconds apart during the first Australian power play, giving Team USA a 4-0 lead before the game was four minutes old. The United States built its lead to 7-0 after one quarter and 12-0 midway through the second. Australia finally got on the board at 7:46, via a Rod Maher goal. Leading 14-2 at halftime, the Americans scored all five goals of the third quarter, turning a rout into a pure laugher. The shutout quarter was part of an eight-goal run by Team USA, which kept the Australians off the board for 23 minutes. Chris Panos, Dan Marohl, Chad Wittman, and Scott Stapleford recorded hat tricks for the Americans. Gordon Purdie topped the Australian stat sheet with three assists. Dwight Maetche recorded his second win of the tournament, allowing just two goals on 22 shots. Jake Henhawk did even better in relief, allowing just as many goals but recording 30 saves. Aaron Machner took the loss, allowing 14 goals on 30 shots. The Americans return to action Sunday at noon, against Scotland. Australia plays the Iroquois Nationals later that day.

Third-quarter spurt puts Canada past Iroquois Canada advances to 2-0, tied with the United States for first place; the Iroquois drop to 1-1, level with Scotland in the race for third. The Maple Leaf side opened with the first four goals of the game, leading 4-0 after four minutes and 5-3 at the end of one quarter. However, the Iroquois battled back in the second quarter, including a quick mid-period pair by Neal Powless which made it a 7-6 game. A three-goal run for Canada in the third quarter made it 12-9 in favor of the host nation. Midway through the fourth quarter, Pat Coyle put the game away, taking a pass from John Tavares and sticking it past Iroquois goaltender Derek General for a 15-11 lead. The Nationals scored two late goals, including one from Clay Hill with 1.4 seconds left in regulation, to narrow the losing margin. John Grant led the Canadians in scoring with three goals and five assists, and was joined in the Hat Trick Club by Dan Stroup and Kaleb Toth. Duane Jacobs (2 goals, 3 assists) and Neal Powless (3 goals, 2 assists) tallied five points each for the Iroquois. Anthony Cosmo got credit for the win, allowing five second-half goals in relief of Pat O'Toole. General went the distance for the Iroquois, recording 44 saves. Iroqouis Nationals forward Tony Henderson suffered a broken foot after a collision with Canada's Glenn Clark, an injury which will put the Philadelphia Wing out of commission for most of the summer. After a day off tomorrow, the two teams get to tee off on cellar-dwellers on Sunday. The Iroquois face Australia at 4:00 PM, followed by Canada vs. Czech Republic at 7:30.
