Roughnecks easily handle Ravens, 19-12Toth, Wulder record hat tricks as Calgary improves to 8-5R.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Kaleb Toth and Jason Wulder scored three goals each as the Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Vancouver Ravens, 19-12, Sunday afternoon at General Motors Place. Chris Gill and Curt Malawsky each tallied four goals for Vancouver in defeat. Malawsky was halfway to his game total in two minutes, scoring a pair of power play goals early in the first quarter. Calgary finally broke through in the seventh minute, when Lewis Ratcliff touched off a three-goal run that helped the Riggers to a 5-3 lead after one quarter. Vancouver drew first blood again in the second quarter -- Peter Morgan and Curt Malawsky -- before Calgary went on another tear. Wulder, Taylor Wray and Ted Dowling scored within a minute's time, and the Roughnecks led, 8-5. Trading goals the rest of the half, the teams went to break with Calgary on top, 10-7. The Riggers made it a comfortable 13-8 lead after three quarters, on a shorthanded goal by Toth and even-strength tallies by Brad MacArthur and Jesse Phillips. Morgan scored Vancouver's only goal of the third quarter. Two goals by Wulder in the fourth minute of the fourth quarter made it a 16-9 game, and Grant Hamilton nudged it a little higher five minutes later. Gill scored three times in the final five and a half minutes to make the score a little more respectable for the home team. Curtis Palidwor made 36 saves in earning the victory. Nick Patterson suffered the loss, making just eight saves on fifteen shots in relief of Dwight Maetche. Vancouver (4-10) is now eliminated from playoff contention. Calgary (8-5) remains in the hunt for second place in the Western Division and the related first-round home game in the playoffs.
