Sting posts 17-10 win in weekend openerBreaks open game against Ravens in first half; rematch SundayR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The Arizona Sting scored six times in the second quarter Saturday night, breaking a 5-5 game wide open en route to a runaway 17-10 victory over the Vancouver Ravens at Glendale Arena. Kasey Beirnes led the way for the Sting, scoring four goals and dishing out five assists. Cam Sedgwick topped the Ravens with three goals and an assist. Early on, though, Chris Gill was the star of the show, helping Vancouver to a 4-2 lead after ten minutes of play, on a goal and two assists. However, Arizona rallied for three goals late in the period, to go up 5-4, before Peter Morgan tied the game at five with an even-strength tally at 13:28. The second quarter was just about all Sting, with six goals to Vancouver's one. Dan Dawson scored twice in the period, and Kyle Jamieson, Gewas Schindler, Pat Maddalena and Beirnes once each. 11-6 at the break. Sedgwick scored the first goal of the second half, but the next four goals, stretching into the fourth quarter, came from Arizona. When Vancouver finally found rope again (Sedgwick, curiously enough), the Ravens were still down seven goals (15-8), and didn't have nearly enough time to mount a comeback. Mike Miron went the distance in collecting his seventh victory of the season, allowing just ten goals on 47 shots. At the other end, Nick Patterson received a quick hook early in the second quarter after allowing six goals on sixteen shots. Dwight Maetche came on in relief, surrendering eleven goals on 25 shots. These teams play again tomorrow at 4:30 PM Pacific (7:30 PM Eastern), at General Motors Place in Vancouver.
