Roughnecks weather the Storm, 19-11Kelusky four goals, Wulder seven assists in big winR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Tracey Kelusky scored four goals and Jason Wulder served up seven assists Friday night as the Calgary Roughnecks ended their regular season on a high note, pounding the Anaheim Storm, 19-11, at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Calgary moves on to the playoffs with a 10-6 record, and will visit San Jose next weekend in the Western Division semifinal. Anaheim, meanwhile, ends a miserable 1-15 campaign and its players will only be moving on to the summer leagues. Anaheim put up a good fight for much of the first half, even establishing a 3-1 lead six minutes into the ballgame, on a pair of goals from Scott Stewart and one from Chad Wittman. However, it evaporated into a 4-3 Calgary advantage by period's end, when Kelusky -- who had just tied the game at three a minute earlier -- connected in the final second of the first quarter. Anaheim pulled even a couple times early in the second quarter, but couldn't take hold of the lead. Finally, in the ninth minute of the period, Rob Kirkby and Taylor Wray scored seconds apart for Calgary, and the Riggers began to distance themselves from the Storm. Stewart finished his hat trick a short time later, but Kaleb Toth and Wulder struck in the closing minutes of the first half, for a 9-6 Calgary lead. After Calgary's Ted Dowling swapped a goal with Gordon Purdie of Anaheim, the Roughnecks went on a six-goal tear. Kelusky began the run at 5:31, then ended it fifteen minutes later with the opening goal of the fourth quarter. 16-7, Riggers. The Storm then made its usual too-little-too-late rally, now a weekly occurence, scoring three goals in succession. No matter for the Roughnecks, who pounded home three more of their own in the last three and a half minutes. Wulder posted a game-high nine points (two goals, seven assists), followed on the Roughnecks by six apiece from Kelusky (four goals, two assists) and Toth (three goals, three assists). Michael Law (two goals, four assists) and Scott Stewart (four goals, one assist) led the Storm in scoring.
