Stealth rolls to season-ending 19-13 winRosyski, Regan four goals each as San Jose readies for playoffsRob Miles Outsider's Guide Game Correspondent The San Jose Stealth closed out their inaugural regular season campaign Saturday night with a dominating 19-13 victory over the visiting Arizona Sting at HP Pavilion. The victory, San Jose's fourth straight, gives the Stealth an impressive 7-1 record at home and an 11-5 record overall, the second best won-loss record in the NLL behind Western Division champion Colorado. Gary Rosyski (four goals, three assists) and Mike Regan (four goals, two assists) led the Stealth scoring attack but the story of the day was Josh Sanderson (one goal, five assists), who posted 61 assists on the season, beating Colorado's Gavin Prout (58) for the league-best total. Arizona was never really a threat in this contest as the Stealth took control early, scoring at will to build a dominating 9-5 halftime lead. Arizona, playing merely for pride after being knocked out of playoff contention last week, countered with balanced scoring from Pat Maddalena (three goals, three assists) and Lindsay Plunkett (three goals, three assists) as well as another outstanding performance from Dan Dawson (five assists). The Sting finished its inaugural campaign in Arizona at 7-9, good enough for fourth place in the division. Head coach Bob McMahon believes that Arizona's young stars will be much better next season, noting, "We have a lot of developing players as well as some young veterans who will make a tremendous impact next season." The Stealth, who avoided letdowns or injuries in a game that meant nothing to its playoff position, moves on to host the Calgary Roughnecks in Western Division semifinal next week. The always dangerous Roughnecks closed out their regular season with a 19-11 home victory over Anaheim and enter the playoffs with a league leading 6-2 won-loss road record. NOTES: Saturday was Fan Appreciation Day and the franchise pulled out all the stops. Each season ticketholder was given a Warrior Mini-Razer stick, free food (hot dogs and sodas), and a team photo... The first 200 attendees were given an opportunity to get on the floor and take shots at reserve goaltender Kitan Gbadebo, with points given by Scott Ranger, Josh Bergey, Jim Moss, and several other Stealth players. Brian Beisel didn't play this week. Instead, fan favorite Tim Fry played in front of the home crowd. At 10:21 of the third, he mixed it up with Troy Bonterre to the delight of the 4,931 in attendance. Unfortunately, Tim ran into a hard right hand from Bonterre and got the worst end of the altercation. Still, the crowd gave him a standing ovation... Playoff tickets go on sale Monday at 10:00 AM. The game against Calgary has been scheduled for Sunday, 18 April, at 7:30 PM local time (10:30 PM Eastern). Fox Sports Bay Area will be carrying the game live for the Bay Area crowd and KNBR, San Francisco's sports radio station, has been promoting the game with several spots throughout the broadcast day.
