The Philadelphia Wings drew 14,480 fans, their biggest crowd of the season, Saturday night to bid Tom Marechek farewell in his final home game.

Unfortunately, the Wings also drew the Toronto Rock as the opposition, and the Rock soundly defeated the Wings, 15-11, clinching the Eastern Division title and home-floor advantage throughout the playoffs.

Aaron Wilson and Blaine Manning led Toronto with four goals each, leading the 72-shot assault.

The Wings got on the scoreboard first, though, on a Jake Bergey goal in the opening minute of play. Manning soon answered, though.

Marechek countered at 2:32, but was followed by three quick goals from the Rock. Colin Doyle scored twice, sandwiching one from Wilson.

This resulted in Wings starting netminder Nick Schroeder being pulled in favor of perennial All-Pro Dallas Eliuk, who turned away the remainder of Toronto's shots in the period.

Philadelphia's Marc Morley opened the second quarter scoring at 3:41, answered seconds later by Manning. After Doyle added a goal at 4:32, Dan Marohl and Keith Cromwell brought the Wings back within one, 6-5.

Josh Sanderson scored twice before the end of the first half, answered by a Wing goal each time. Marechek countered the first time, and Andrew Burkholder took back the second with a tally in the final seconds of the half.

The Wings came out strong in the third period, scoring three times in a row (the first two by Burkholder, completing a natural hat trick) and coming oh so close to shutting out the Rock for the entire quarter.

It was not until the 14:34 mark that Toronto was finally able to score, with Wilson ending the drought. It completely changed the momentum of the game, as the final stanza was nothing but Rock.

Toronto scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter (two by Wilson), for a 13-10 lead with seven minutes remaining.

Cromwell brought the Wings within two seconds later, but Philadelphia could not score again, nor could it stop Manning from striking the fatal blow at 13:54.

Chris Driscoll capped off the game with an inspired empty netter with less than twenty seconds to go.

Toronto improves to 11-3, but the 6-8 Wings get another shot at the division champs, tomorrow afternoon at Air Canada Centre.
