Mike Accursi scored seven goals Saturday night as the Rochester Knighthawks upset the Buffalo Bandits, 19-14, before an Eastern Division Semifinal crowd of 10,014 at HSBC Arena.

Rochester moves on to visit Toronto next weekend for a chance to play in the NLL Champion's Cup Final on Saturday, 14 May.

Rochester jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes, on two goals from John Grant and one from Ken Millin, before Delby Powless finally managed to beat Knighthawks goaltender Pat O'Toole.

Steve Toll, who had not really been used as much of a transition player since his acquisition from San Jose last month, scored the next goal unassisted on a rare full-floor run, but A.J. Shannon cut the Knighthawks' lead to 4-2 a minute later, closing out the first quarter scoring.

Accursi, who played in Buffalo from 2000 to 2004, needed only 48 seconds of the second quarter to find the back of the net behind Bandits goaltender Steve Dietrich, but Mark Steenhuis answered with an unassisted goal of his own.

Rochester, though, was not quite ready to let the Bandits back into the game. Leading 5-3, the Knighthawks scored the next five goals -- Shawn Williams, Accursi, Chris Schiller, Andrew Turner, and Williams again.

That gave the Knighthawks their biggest lead of the game, at 10-3, with 4:52 remaining in the first half. Even with their limited time, the Bandits managed to do a lot to fix that.

Exactly 30 seconds after Williams' goal, Steenhuis started a four-goal run. Pat McCready and John Tavares followed with goals of their own before Steenhuis added his third of the night, off a pass from Jason Crosbie.

Accursi added his third of the night with 25 seconds left in the half, giving Rochester an 11-7 lead, but Shannon cut the lead back to three just seconds later.

Buffalo continued to chip away at Rochester's lead in the third quarter. Tavares scored the first goal of the third quarter, but Accursi was quick to answer. Dan Teat and Steenhuis then managed to get the Bandits within one goal but Williams made it 13-11 to end the third stanza.

Steenhuis made it a 13-12 ballgame just 39 seconds into the fourth quarter, but that was as close as the Bandits would come to tying the game. Grant and Accursi each buried a pair of goals over the next two minutes and fourteen seconds, essentially putting the game out of reach.

Aime Caines and Shannon each scored late, but a pair of empty net goals -- one from Accursi, one from Scott Evans -- drove the nail even further into the Bandits' coffin.

Accursi led all scorers with seven goals and one assist, and John Grant added four goals and four assists. Steenhuis paced the Bandits with five goals and one assist.

In goal, O'Toole picked up the victory by making 31 saves on 45 shots. At the other end, Dietrich stopped 21 of the 26 shots he faced, but was chased from the net three times. Derek General tallied seven saves on eleven shots faced.
