Wings ground skid, beat Bandits, 13-11

The Philadelphia Wings grounded their losing streak by defeating the Buffalo Bandits 13-11 in come back fashion tonight at the Marine Midland Arena. The Wings' first win of the season moves their record to 1-4, while the Bandits fall to 3-3.

After falling behind 5-1 in the first quarter which was brought on by an early Buffalo adrenilin rush and outstanding goaltending by Matt Disher, the Wings turned it around with composure to enter the locker room at halftime with a 10-9 lead. The comeback came about with some terrific outside shooting as Philadelphia pelted the Buffalo goaltender with 22 shots to Buffalo's 6.

Philadelphia capitalized on a couple of Buffalo mental errors in the third quarter that allowed Kevin Finneran to score on a break away due to a bench change-up play and Fred Jenner to score on a great transition setup a minute later. These two opportunist plays seemed to take the wind out of Buffalo sails.

Buffalo had a great chance to get back in the game with the score 10-9 Philadelphia early in the fourth quarter when Chris Bates was sent off for a double minor. The Wings shut the door by killing the double minor that seemed to spark the team along with steady goaltending from Dallas Eliuk between the pipes.

The score did not change after the 10:30 mark of the fourth quarter. Philadelphia received great efforts from Game MVP Tom Marechek, Kevin Finneran and Jake Bergey. Buffalo Bandit John Tavares was the top point getter for Buffalo.
