The Outsider's Guide would like to thank...The Outsider's Guide wishes to thank the following people for their help in making our coverage of the 2000 National Lacrosse League a rousing success. Without the assistance of fans across the league, the coverage this season would not have been nearly as successful. First, thanks to the game correspondents. These are fans who took on the extra responsibility at the games of taking notes and writing great articles. They are listed, with the game reports they wrote, in alphabetical order: George Bruck Jr 7 Jan: Philadelphia 12, Albany 11 29 Jan: Philadelphia 15, Rochester 12 5 Feb: Philadelphia 15, New York 13 26 Feb: Pittsburgh 14, Philadelphia 8 25 Mar: Toronto 15, Philadelphia 13 8 Apr: Philadelphia 22, Buffalo 11 Saul Davidson 14 Jan: Albany 21, Pittsburgh 19 11 Feb: Albany 13, Syracuse 12 11 Mar: Albany 8, Toronto 7 17 Mar: Albany 16, New York 6 Chad Gambone 18 Mar: Philadelphia 17, Syracuse 14 Dave Holusha 8 Jan: Pittsburgh 23, New York 12 15 Jan: New York 14, Syracuse 13 11 Feb: Philadelphia 17, New York 11 25 Mar: Buffalo 21, New York 16 Ben Knight 8 Jan: Toronto 17, Buffalo 14 21 Jan: Toronto 9, New York 5 5 Feb: Buffalo 21, Albany 17 5 Feb: Rochester 14, Toronto 9 26 Feb: Buffalo 18, Toronto 12 3 Mar: Toronto 15, Syracuse 10 31 Mar: Toronto 14, Pittsburgh 10 8 Apr: Toronto 17, Albany 8 22 Apr: Toronto 14, Philadelphia 10 Joe Zaffuto 29 Jan: New York 17, Albany 16 The Outsider's Guide would also like to extend its gratitude to the following newspapers and writers, for their contributions: Albany Times-Union: Buzz Gray 31 Mar: Albany 17, Syracuse 6 Tim Reynolds 15 Apr: Buffalo 15, Albany 13 Mark Singelais 2 Apr: Philadelphia 13, Albany 12 Buffalo News: Staff 12 Feb: Pittsburgh 17, Buffalo 14 Tom Borrelli 29 Jan: Buffalo 22, Syracuse 21 18 Feb: Buffalo 18, Rochester 14 11 Mar: Buffalo 19, New York 18 1 Apr: Buffalo 16, Philadelphia 11 21 Apr: Rochester 15, Buffalo 11 Newsday: Gregg Sarra 31 Mar: Rochester 12, New York 10 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Paul Zeise 28 Jan: Toronto 11, Pittsburgh 9 25 Feb: Pittsburgh 20, New York 15 10 Mar: Rochester 17, Pittsburgh 12 Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: J Klimovich Harrop 22 Jan: Pittsburgh 16, Philadelphia 15 Phil Shie 25 Mar: Pittsburgh 21, Syracuse 9 Rochester Democrat & Chronicle: Bob Chavez 7 Jan: Rochester 16, Syracuse 6 Sal Maiorana 15 Jan: Rochester 18, Pittsburgh 14 11 Feb: Toronto 11, Rochester 10 26 Feb: Albany 17, Rochester 15 18 Mar: Rochester 16, Buffalo 13 1 Apr: Rochester 23, Syracuse 10 15 Apr: Rochester 20, Philadelphia 14 Syracuse Post-Standard: Dave Rahme 13 Feb: New York 15, Syracuse 13 8 Apr: Syracuse 10, Pittsburgh 9 15 Apr: Toronto 25, Syracuse 11 Toronto Sun: Mike Koreen 6 May: Toronto 14, Rochester 13 I also owe a debt of gratitude to the people who did not write any game summaries but who contributed frequent assistance, without which most game summaries would never have been complete. Whether they were helping to write lead paragraphs for articles and for the home page, adding their own comments to the articles of others, providing stats, making suggestions, or just offering the little things that keep the Outsider's Guide at such a high level of quality, they've helped in ways that usually go without recognition. My thanks to Bandit, Brent Clark, Bob Cochrane, Glen Dundas, eSs88, GoKHawksGo, Fabio Gump, Lax Fan, Scott Neiss, John Sapello, Winston Seeney, Smashmouth, Scott Willms, the Outsider's Guide's insiders throughout the league, and the multitudes who passed through the About.com and ArenaMedia chat rooms throughout the course of the season. An extra round of applause goes to Saul Davidson, for allowing the Outsider's Guide to have a home on ArenaMedia. Two months before the season, the Outsider's Guide was in need of a new home, after reaching irreconcilable differences with former host FortuneCity regarding advertising. Saul quickly offered up a corner of his web site, and I quickly accepted. It should go without saying, though, that the hard work would have meant nothing without the support shown by the visitors of the Outsider's Guide. In 1999, there were around eighty hits per day; this season, the visits increased by two hundred fifty percent, exceeding 1400 visitors in an average week. The mushrooming popularity of the Outsider's Guide continues to amaze me (a year ago, I thought that the eighty hits was quite high for a typical day -- oh, how a year can change your perspective), and for that, I have only the many fantastic fans of the NLL to thank. There is no doubt in my mind that the saying is correct, that no sport's fans are as great as those indoor lacrosse has. R.A. Philly -30- |
