Toronto's Squires escape serious injury in fatal accident
Use of seat belts possibly saved brothers from death

Seatbelts likely saved the lives of two of the Toronto Rock's star players.
Brothers Rod and Kim Squire were wearing their seatbelts when their truck flipped and rolled several times after being struck by another vehicle Sunday as they returned from a team lacrosse practice in Grimsby. The driver of the other car, who apparently ran a stop sign, was killed.
"If I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt, I probably would have gone through the windshield," said Kim Squire, whose left eye was badly scraped and who sustained facial cuts from flying glass.
Rod Squire, who was driving the pair to their Ohsweken, Ontario, home, received a bruised forehead and muscle stiffness from the collision. A member of last year's National Lacrosse League championship Rock team, 27-year-old Rod Squire hadn't planned to suit up for Toronto until later in the season.
However, 20-year-old Kim, the Rock's leading scorer said he'll be in tomorrow night's lineup against the New York Saints for the team's home opener at Maple Leaf Gardens. Kim Squire practiced last night with the team in Grimsby and is looking forward to receiving his championship ring in tomorrow's pre-game ceremony.
"I'm going to play, there's no doubt in my mind I'm going to play," said Squire, who scored six goals and assisted on four others in the Rock's 9 January season-opening 17-14 victory in Buffalo over the Bandits.
"I can't wait. I can't wait to be there and play and get my ring."
Rock coach Les Bartley said it's more important that Kim Squire take care of his health than worry about playing. He was sleeping when the cars collided, knocked out briefly then spent six hours in hospital before doctors released him.
"If he's healthy and able to play, he'll be in the lineup," Bartley told Canadian Press.
"I'm more worried about the emotional scars."
