Grant named 2000's Rookie of YearChosen on all ballots he was eligible onNLL Press Release Attackman John Grant, Jr. was named the National Lacrosse League’s Rookie of the Year today. The Rochester Knighthawks’ first round pick in last September’s NLL Draft, and the first player taken overall, was selected on every ballot he was eligible on. Voting for the award was done by the team General Managers and Head Coaches. In twelve games during the regular season, which ended this past Saturday night, Grant averaged over six points per game. The University of Delaware product scored 37 goals and added 40 assists for 77 points, which not only led all rookies in scoring, but ranked third overall. Grant was the NLL Rookie of the Month in both January and March. He also won Player of the Week honors twice. The 25-year old was twice chosen as the Game MVP. Grant had nine three-or-more goal games and scored two game-winning goals. Grant’s assists and points totals are new one-season Rochester team records. The Hamner, Ontario native was honored one year ago as the NCAA’s Division I Outstanding Player and Outstanding Attackman. Buffalo’s Pat Maddalena earned one vote, from the Rochester staff (which was prohibited from choosing their own player). The Bandits and Grant’ Knighthawks will battle this Friday night at HSBC Arena in a semifinal playoff game. Grant’s game-by-game performances were as follows:
