Relocated CrosseFire will play at MCI CenterShift from Patriot Center aimed at increasing sponsorship appealR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Correction! Article changed on 13 September 2000 to show correct location of MCI Center. The relocated Pittsburgh CrosseFire, seemingly destined to set up shop at college arena in northern Virginia, is instead about to announce that it has reached a deal to play at the MCI Center in the District of Columbia, sources within the organization are reporting to the Outsider's Guide. The rent at MCI Center was originally seen as far too expensive for an NLL team. However, by playing on the same days as one of the arena's primary tenants, the NHL's Washington Capitals and the NBA's Washington Wizards, the rent is significantly decreased. Also, by playing at MCI Center, the CrosseFire -- likely to be renamed soon -- also is more attractive to sponsors. The CrosseFire, recently sold by Dennis Townsend to a group led by the team's franchise player, Gary Gait, and reported to include such companies as STX and Toyota, had been expected to play its home games at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. Patriot Center is on the campus of George Mason University and is about a half-hour west of downtown Washington. -30- |
