Jim Rogers, an eight-year veteran of the Philadelphia Wings whose career was ended with a blown-out knee this spring, was named the Wings' new general manager today, according to team president and co-owner Russ Cline.

In his new role, Rogers will be responsible for player acquisitions, scouting, staffing, recruiting, and organizing the team's tryout and training camp. He will also produce sponsorship and marketing opportunities for the team and its players.

"We look to Jim to elevate the Wings to a world championship," said Cline. "Jim has tremendous business experience, lacrosse skills, and the respect of his players. We’re confident that he, along with Coach Tony Resch and Assistant Coach Adam Mueller, will guide us to success and excellence this season."

Rogers, a 1998 graduate of Villanova University, becomes the fourth general manager in the fifteen-year history of the Wings, following Dave Huntley, Mike French, and Steve Govett. Govett resigned earlier this month to join the Washington Power, as vice president and general manager.

"It’s an extreme honor to be recognized by the Wings organization," said Rogers. "I’m confident that along with our coaches and our players that we will put together the best Wings team in history -- a team that the fans of Philadelphia can identify with."

Rogers totalled 106 points (37 + 69) in 60 regular-season games with the Wings, and was the team's captain this past season. A torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn medial collateral ligament suffered in a March practice ended his career.
