Darris Kilgour, a long-time Buffalo Bandit who this past season captained the first-year Albany Attack, has been named head coach of the Washington Power. The announcement comes less than a week after reports that Kilgour was retiring from the Attack due to an arthritic hip.

A three-time All-Pro, Kilgour appeared in twelve games for the Attack this year, scoring 13 goals and assisting on 38 more. The first-ever selection of the Bandits in 1992, Kilgour still holds the team record for career penalty minutes (257) and is among the top five in Bandit history in every offensive category.

To allow Kilgour one last shot at a championship (since he was expected to retire after the 1999 season), the Bandits (staggering towards their worst record ever) made a deadline deal which sent him to Rochester for the final two games of the regular season and the playoffs. That campaign ended with a championship-game loss in Toronto.

The following summer, the Knighthawks sent Kilgour to Albany in a package deal, in order to land top draft prospect John Grant, Jr. Soon thereafter, Kilgour was named the first captain in Attack history.

Kilgour's coaching experience includes his position at Niagara-Wheatfield High School in western New York and as an assistant coach at Canisius College.
