Bandits, Attack share first place in four-way scrimmage
Both teams finish 2-0-1 in Friday night tournament
Deb McAllister Outsider's Guide Game Correspondent
The Buffalo Bandits hosted the Albany Attack, Columbus Landsharks and Rochester Knighthawks in a four-way, round-robin scrimmage Friday night at HSBC Arena. Buffalo and Albany tied for the best record on the night, at 2-0-1 each, while the Knighthawks lost all three of their matches to finish in last place.
Each of the six games consisted of two 10-minute halves, with penalties called but not served.
Analysis of each team's performance at the four-way scrimmage:
Albany Attack (2-0-1):
The Attack looks to be coming together well as a team this year. Their offense was impressive. Defense and goaltending were solid. This team looks ready to give the rest of the league a run for thier money this season.
Game 1: Albany 4, Buffalo 4 (tie)
Game 3: Albany 7, Rochester 3
Game 5: Albany 6, Columbus 3
Buffalo Bandits (2-0-1):
The Bandits have added a lot of young talent to compliment what was already there. Ryan Powell appears to be adjusting well to the box, scoring in all three games. The defense was better than in years past; however the goaltending situation is shaky at best, now that Matt Disher has left the team.
Game 1: Buffalo 4, Albany 4 (tie)
Game 2: Buffalo 6, Columbus 4
Game 4: Buffalo 7, Rochester 6
Columbus Landsharks (1-2-0):
The Landsharks looked pretty good for an expansion team. While they were victorious in only one of their contests, they played solid on offense. Defense and goaltending could use a little work, but those aspects of the game should come together as the team starts to gel.
Game 2: Buffalo 6, Columbus 4
Game 5: Albany 6, Columbus 3
Game 6: Columbus 7, Rochester 3
Rochester Knighthawks (0-3-0):
The Knighthawks were definitely the surprise of the night, and not in a good way. Even with their veteran players on the floor, it seemed like they had ever played together before. The defense was virtually non-existant, the offense was sloppy and uncoordinated, and goaltending was weak. The Knighthawks, normally a very disciplined and methodical team, truly looked like amateurs.
Game 3: Albany 7, Rochester 3
Game 4: Buffalo 7, Rochester 6
Game 6: Columbus 7, Rochester 3
