NLL commissioner Jim Jennings yesterday denied newspaper reports of imminent mega-expansion for next season, according to the Toronto Sun's Mike Koreen.

The report, which first appeared in the Edmonton Sun and was later reprinted here, suggested that Jennings was within days of announcing that four western cities -- Anaheim, Sacramento, San Jose, and Portland -- would be added to the league in time for the 2002 season.

However, Jennings concedes that a group in Anaheim wants a franchise and that a group from Winnipeg will meet with league executives within the next few weeks.

Jennings also expressed hopes that a four- or five-team western division can be created in time for next season.
