All Star Game to be held in Orlando

Midseason classic slated for Tuesday, 26 February

After several seasons without it, the National Lacrosse League will resurrect its midseason All Star Game with a Tuesday, 26 February game in Orlando, Florida.

The day and location of the game were first reported in today's Vancouver Sun, then confirmed by a team executive.

The midseason classic will be played at the MilkHouse, a 5,000-seat, state-of-the-art arena at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

The league plans to fill the arena by promoting all-inclusive travel packages to season ticket holders and by having tickets to the game included in the registration cost for lacrosse camps and tournaments being held that week. Some three thousand players, plus their families, are expected in central Florida the week of the game.

A Tuesday evening was chosen so that the game can be aired live, coast to coast, during prime time. The timing can't be beat, either -- the middle of the week during sweeps month, when television viewership increases.

There are also plans for a fan fest in Orlando, similar to what Major League Baseball, the National Basketball League, and other pro leagues offer in the days surrounding their respective All Star Games.
