CNN/SI 2001-2002 schedule announcedSeventeen regular season games, plus ASG and full postseasonR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The National Lacrosse League today announced the schedule of games which will appear on CNN/Sports Illustrated, with which it signed a two-year American television contract last month. The schedule features, as expected, seventeen regular-season games, the 26 February All Star Game at Orlando, and all five games of the postseason. CNN/SI will show one game per weekend, every weekend except two -- 4-5 January and 2 March. Every game on the schedule will be available live from coast-to-coast, and all but three are prime time matchups. "[Deputy Commissioner] George Daniel and our partners at CNN/Sports Illustrated have put together a terrific schedule of games for the network," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said. "The NLL Game of the Week on CNN/Sports Illustrated will be a big hit with our current fans, and will introduce our game to many new fans across North America." As expected, top teams will appear more frequently than weaker ones. Philadelphia and Washington show up five times each in the regular season, including twice against each other, while New Jersey, New York, and Rochester are scheduled for four coast-to-coast dates. Even with the heavy stacking of American teams, NLL and CNN/SI found room to thrice include the three-time defending finalist Toronto Rock and make a pair of trips to Vancouver. CNN/SI makes at least one visit to ten of the thirteen member cities, and one team that doesn't play host (Calgary) will appear in an early-season game at New York. Ottawa and Montreal make no appearances at all. In a curious bit of scheduling, the New Jersey Storm appears three times before Christmas, including the NLL season opener on 16 November at Albany, but only once in the calendar year 2002. Also curious, but only because networks like to vary the participating teams each week, is that the Philadelphia Wings are featured in each of the final three regular season showings. The following is the schedule of games on CNN/SI for the 2001-2002 season (all times Eastern): Friday, 16 November -30- |
