Kelusky repeats as Player of the WeekGait, Maetche, Morgan also honoredR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The National Lacrosse League has named its Players of the Week for Week Three, an eight-game slate of matches from 29 November to 2 December. For the first time this season, the Overall winner -- Montreal's Tracey Kelusky -- did not win one of the other categories. Perhaps the league decided the Express star had picked up enough hardware lately, following Overall and Offensive awards a week ago. In two games this past weekend, Kelusky scored five goals and assisted on fourteen others in a pair of Express victories. The Offensive player of the week was Washington Power forward Paul Gait, with five goals and five assists in a 13-12 overtime victory against the Rochester Knighthawks. Goaltender Dwight Maetche and forward Peter Morgan, both of the Vancouver Ravens, secured Defensive and Rookie honors, respectively. Maetche stopped 41 of 53 shots and Morgan recorded three goals and three assists in the Ravens' 13-12 upset of the Toronto Rock. Kelusky's award stash now includes three overall Player of the Week awards, 2001 Rookie of the Year, and 2001 Second-Team All-Pro, among others. Gait adds to a collection that features a half-dozen Player of the Week awards, multiple Player of the Month honors, and ten All-Pro Teams. Maetche and Morgan are debut award winners. -30- |
