Prat finally traded to VancouverRoughies get three players for righthander, draft pickR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The Calgary Roughnecks today traded Chris Prat to the Vancouver Ravens for three players, thus ending several weeks of on-again, off-again trade talks. Headed to Alberta are Kyle Goundrey, Jesse Phillips, and John Olson. Also, a second-round pick in the 2003 entry draft is conferred to the Ravens. "We believe Chris is a great fit for the Ravens and we’re very pleased to get him," Vancouver coach Paul Dal Monte said. Prat now joins his fourth team in a four-year career, following stints with the Syracuse Smash and Buffalo Bandits. He was traded to Calgary this summer by the Bandits, along with goaltender Derek Collins, for the first-overall pick in the 15 June expansion draft. In four games this season with the Roughnecks, Prat scored one goal and added six assists. The numbers are deceptive, however -- Prat had become an afterthought in the star-studded Roughneck offense. A better example of Prat's skills came with Buffalo in 2000, with twenty goals in twelve games. (Prat sat out last season for personal reasons) The presence of so many offensive stars in Calgary made Prat expendable, especially in the face of a poor defense so far this year. The three new faces should help in that facet of the game. While Goundrey has solid offensive credentials, he also had been leading the Ravens in loose balls recovered, which can't hurt a team with a virtually-nonexistant transition game. Phillips and Olson, meanwhile, are defensemen by trade, each with limited floor time for the Ravens this season. All four players are expected to play this evening -- Prat with the Ravens in Montreal, and Goundrey, Phillips and Olson with the Roughnecks in Calgary. -30- |
