Report: Attack returning for fourth seasonCentral Division champs will stay in Albany to defend crownR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Albany Attack ownership, enthusiastic after a jump in attendance for the team's two postseason games, will bring the team back to the Capital Region for a fourth season, an Albany television station reported today. In an article appearing on its web site, WTEN-TV reports that Attack majority owner Herb Chorbajian will keep the defending Central Division champion and NLL finalist club in Albany for the 2002-2003 season, and that an official announcement would come soon, perhaps as early as today. The Attack's regular-season average attendance was a franchise-low 3,500 fans this year, better than only the Washington Power in the thirteen-team league, but rose to over 5,000 for a semifinal game against the Rochester Knighthawks and 9,300 for the NLL Champion's Cup final against the Toronto Rock. The attendance spike has encouraged Chorbajian to give the Attack another season in Albany, the TV station said. The team has played at Pepsi Arena since its inception in 2000. The postseason rumor mill suggested that the Attack was up for sale and possibly about to move, perhaps to Portland, but WTEN's report suggests that, if the rumor was true, any potential sale has fallen through. -30- |
