More free agents announcedUnsigned draft picks, players without qualifying offers addedR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The Professional Lacrosse Players Assocoation recently announced twenty-one additional players in this year's free agency class. Hardest hit in the latest round of free agency was the New Jersey Storm, with a total of five players added to the rolls. Four teams -- the Columbus Landsharks, Philadelphia Wings, Rochester Knighthawks, and Toronto Rock -- escaped without additional free agents being named. Players in two categories were included in the new lists -- those who did not receive a qualifying offer from their current team and those who sat out two seasons after being selected in the September 2000 NLL Entry Draft. Nine players did not receive qualifying offers by the 31 July deadline and are now restricted free agents. Players in this class are eligible to sign an offer sheet with any NLL club, but the team which owns his rights has seventy-two hours after the offer sheet is signed to match the offer in order to keep him. Twelve unsigned draft picks are now unrestricted free agents, able to sign with any team, and all prior rights to the player are terminated. Last month, PLPA announced that 23 players were eligible for restricted free agency and another 22 for unrestricted free agency. The restricted free agents identified at that time qualified by being three-year veterans who sat out one season, were paid below the league average, or took a pay cut last season. July's unrestricted free agents were six-year veterans who are at least 23 years old. No compensation is awarded to teams that lose free agents in any class. The following players are newly eligible for free agency. A list of players previously declared free agents may be accessed via the link at left. Players are unrestricted free agents unless otherwise marked.
