Sanderson shift in Ottawa?CP: Terry to become Rebel coach, Lindsay moves to GMR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The Ottawa Rebel is about to name Terry Sanderson as its new head coach, the Canadian Press reported Thursday. Sanderson's arrival in the Canadian capital is more a job transfer than a fresh hiring, though. This past season, he had been the head coach of the Montreal Express, However, with that team now serving a one-year suspension of operations, Sanderson is moving from the team for which Brad Watters was president to the team which Brad Watters owns. The curious part of the coaching change is that Sanderson replaces his younger brother, Lindsay, who left the Express coaching staff in January to take over the Rebel. Lindsay Sanderson, who inherited a 1-4 Rebel team and led it to a 4-12 finish, will be elevated to general manager, but will assist the elder Sanderson on the bench during games. This will be Terry Sanderson's third NLL coaching job. Prior to his year in Montreal, he coached the Albany Attack in 2000 and 2001. The Rebel would now be on its eighth coach in five years, the fourth since relocating from Syracuse for the 2001 season. Others to skipper the team include Kevin Alexander, Freeman Bucktooth, Marty Cooper, Patrick Donahue, Steve Scaramuzzino, and Mark Vitarelli. -30- |
