Storm names Brady permanent head coach & GMOLA Major commish had been interim skipper; Rogers leaves front officeR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The New Jersey Storm today removed the word "interim" from Jim Brady's title, making him the team's permanent head coach. Brady joined the Storm last summer as director of player personnel, taking over behind the bench when Jim Hinkson was fired after a 1-3 start. After initially struggling under Brady, the Storm won four of its last six games in 2002, finishing with a 5-11 record in its debut season. "I looking forward to moving the team up a few notches," Brady said. "We have addressed the problem we had scoring goals with a couple of trades and I hope to build on an already solid defense." Those trades were yesterday's deal to acquire Mike Benedict from the Ottawa Rebel and a July blockbuster to bring in Roy Colsey from the Buffalo Bandits. "I’m enthused about the play of [Storm starting goaltender] Matt Roik," Brady said, "who has set the summer league on fire this summer while playing for his hometown team, Victoria. That should make us pretty solid on goaltending as well." "The Storm showed major signs of improvement under Jim Brady in the second half of last season," Storm alternate governor Chip Santye said. "His knowledge and experience in the lacrosse world will help us in the front office and on the floor. We look forward to a very exciting and successful 2002-2003 season."In the summer, Brady serves as commissioner of the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Major Series, the top lacrosse league in the province. Earlier in his career, Brady totalled six national championships and more than four hundred victories as a Junior A coach or general manager. Brady also was named the Storm's general manager today, replacing Jim Rogers. Recently named an assistant general manager and assistant coach for the United States' World Indoor Lacrosse Championship team, Brady will remain in the Storm organization as an advisor. -30- |
