The Philadelphia Wings today released veteran forward Kevin Finneran, ending his ten-year stint with the team.

No reason was given for the move, which was first announced on the Professional Lacrosse Players Association web site today.

However, sources close to the situation indicate that Finneran has had repeated differences with general manager Marty O'Neill and head coach Adam Mueller, and that they decided to go in a different direction with their young team.

Playing ability seems to have played little role in the decision. Finneran, 37, scored 39 goals and handed out 40 assists in sixteen games last season, then tacked on three more helpers in a 12-11 quarterfinal loss to Washington.

If Finneran is able to join a new team by the start of the season, he can extend his league-record consecutive games played streak, which currently stands at 122 games. His 127 career regular season games and 145 games overall (including playoffs) are also records.

Additionally, he shares the record for most seasons played -- twelve -- with ex-teammates Dallas Eliuk, Gary Gait (now with the Colorado Mammoth), Paul Gait (retired), and Tim Soudan (Rochester Knighthawks).

Finneran broke into the Major Indoor Lacrosse League in 1991, with the New England Blazers. After one season there and one with the Detroit Turbos, Finneran came to Philadelphia in 1993.

In his career, Finneran has scored 211 goals, dished out 296 assists, and compiled 580 loose balls recovered. His Philadelphia totals of 193, 280, and 513, respectively, are good enough for second, first, and third in team history.

In eighteen playoff games, all but one with Philadelphia, Finneran tacked up 27 goals, 50 assists, and 83 scoops. He won titles with the Wings in 1994, 1995, 1998 and 2001, and played in the league championship game three other times.
