Mammoth goalie named Player of the WeekMiller stands tall in division-clincher; Maddalena, Morley also honoredR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Colorado Mammoth goaltender Erik Miller has been named the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week for Week Sixteen, the games of 11-13 April 2003. Columbus Landsharks forward Pat Maddalena and New Jersey Storm forward Marc Morley also were honored for their play in the final weekend of regular-season play. Miller, who was also named the Defensive Player of the Week, stopped 43 shots Sunday afternoon in the Mammoth's 13-10 win over the Toronto Rock. In addition, Miller dished out a pair of assists and scooped up ten loose balls in the victory, which clinched the Eastern Division title for the Mammoth. Maddalena, the Offensive Player of the Week, scored five goals and added two assists in the Landsharks' 17-11 win at Ottawa on Saturday afternoon. Among his quintet of goals was the game-winner, scored late in the third quarter. Morley, the Rookie of the Week, had a hat trick in each of his two games this weekend, recording three goals and two assists in a 13-11 loss to New York on Saturday night and scoring three more times Sunday in an 18-9 home loss against Vancouver. This is Miller's second career Overall award, the first time coming in Week Two of this season; ironically, that one was for beating Toronto, too. Maddalena makes his third career appearance on the Top Players list, while Morley is on for the second time. -30- |
