The Arizona Sting today unveiled its logo, which features an attacking scorpion.

Arizona Sting logo, unveiled today.

The brick-red scorpion holds a lacrosse stick in its claws, while its stinger is raised as if ready to strike.

"The scorpion is an aggressive creature that moves decisively and with great precision and skill," Phoenix Coyotes president Doug Moss said. The Coyotes will run the day-to-day operations of the Sting.

"We plan to build a team characterized by the qualities that the scorpion represents," Moss added. "The scorpions' stinger is an intimidating weapon that will strike fear into its opponent."

The word "Sting" is located just under the scorpion, spelled out in brick red letters with black trim. "Arizona" appears just below that, in small black letters.

The Sting also released two alternate versions of the logo: one that omits the word "Arizona," and one without any words at all.

The team's jersey design was not revealed today. No word on when that will happen.
