Williams selected as NLL's Player of WeekFive goals in Knighthawks' double OT win; Lough, Cercy also honoredR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The National Lacrosse League today named Rochester Knighthawks forward Shawn Williams as its Overall Player of the Week for Week Thirteen, the games of 19-21 March. Arizona Sting defenseman Peter Lough and San Jose Stealth forward Chris Cercy also were honored. Williams (also the Offensive Player of the Week) scored five goals and chipped in two assists as the Knighthawks defeated the Buffalo Bandits, 13-12, in double overtime Saturday night. Four of Williams' goals came in the fourth quarter, including a natural hat trick. Peter Lough picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors by holding the dangerous Gavin Prout to only one goal in the Sting's 14-13 win over Colorado on Friday night. Lough dominated the Mammoth in the faceoff circle, winning 20 of 29 draws, and scooped up seven loose balls. Cercy, the Rookie of the Week, also reigned supreme on faceoffs, posting a 19-10 record in the Stealth's 15-11 victory Saturday afternoon over the Vancouver Ravens. Cercy also dished out an assist. The award is the sixth of Williams' career, and the second in which he was named as the Overall Player of the Week. Lough and Cercy are first-time honorees. -30- |
