Owners, players brush aside CBA deadlineTalks go deep into the night, but deal fails in daylight voteR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The good news from the National Lacrosse League early Saturday on the collective bargaining front was that its midnight Friday deadline came and went without the cancellation of the 2005 season. The bad news is that there's still no collective bargaining agreement and still a very real chance of indoor lacrosse armageddon. Representatives of the NLL's owners and the Professional Lacrosse Players Association met until 1:45 AM Saturday, emerging with two separate proposals. PLPA's player representatives met via conference call early this afternoon, but rejected both plans, which reportedly differed mainly in length. Negotiations have continued all day and into the evening, with reports that an agreement is imminent. However, the league continues with its threat to cancel the 2005 season if a deal is not reached soon. -30- |
