Heritage Cup rosters announced

Twelve Mammoth players picked for international on hume turf

The general managers of Team Canada and Team USA announced their rosters yesterday for the upcoming Heritage Cup, to be held Saturday, 16 October at 7:00 PM Mountain, at Pepsi Center in Denver.

Team USA Steve Govett, who also handles that job for the National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth, took plenty of his own for the home-turf contest. Nine Americans play for the Mammoth, including All Star defensemen Jamie Hanford and Jay Jalbert.

Canadian boss Johnny Mouradian snatched up three Mammoth players of his own, forwards Gary Gait and Gavin Prout and goaltender Gord Nash.

There are plenty of non-Mammoth stars in the game, though, including Colin Doyle (Toronto), John Grant (Rochester), Tracey Kelusky (Calgary), and John Tavares (Buffalo) for Team Canada; and Keith Cromwell (Philadelphia), Mike Regan (San Jose), John Rosa (Anaheim), and Dwight Maetche (Vancouver).

On paper, Canada clearly has the better team, as it did in the one previous Heritage Cup game (5 October 2002) -- but it's Team USA which enters as the defending champion, following a 21-16 at Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

Ten NLL teams are represented on the Heritage Cup rosters; only Minnesota, which has not yet begun signing players, is left out.

The game will air on the new Altitude Sports and Entertainment channel on a tape-delayed basis at 10:00 PM Mountain.

The Heritage Cup rosters, with position, shooting hand, age, current NLL team, height and weight:
