No surprise in Minnesota: It's the SwarmExpansion team chooses gold and blue as its colorsR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief For a surprise announcement, Minnesota Lacrosse sure was in short supply of suspense. For over a week, Twin Cities lacrosse fans have known that the team would be called the Minnesota Swarm -- and even saw the club's logo when its web site was inadvertantly updated from a more generic design. But at least now it's official.
The Swarm logo, unveiled this afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, depicts (in the team's words) "a swarming motion while highlighting an ambiguous insect, all in the form of the letter S." The word "Swarm" appears in gold uppercase letters, with "Minnesota" above it in small white lettering. The aforementioned ambiguous insect is up top, in white, with dark blue as the background for the entire logo. "We are excited to unveil the name and logo of our team," Minnesota Sports & Entertainment executive vice president Matt Majka said. "The Minnesota Swarm best represents what fans can expect from our team and the powerful, high scoring and fact-paced action of the National Lacrosse League." Minnesota Sports & Entertainment, owner of the NHL's Minnesota Wild, also owns and operates the Swarm. Swarm merchandise will soon be available through the team's new web site, mnswarm.com. -30- |
