Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Toronto Rock forward Blaine Manning was named today as the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week for Week Fifteen, the games of 8-10 April. Philadelphia Wings forward Andrew Burkholder and Buffalo Bandits goaltender Steve Dietrich also received awards for their play this past weekend. Manning, who was additionally selected as the Offensive Player of the Week, recorded seventeen points in two victories over the Philadelphia Wings. First, he struck for four goals and five assists Saturday night in Philadelphia (15-11), then he added four goals and four assists the next afternoon at home (14-13). The first win clinched the Eastern Division title and home-floor advantage throughout the playoffs for the Rock. Dietrich, the Defensive Player of the Week, allowed just nine goals on 52 shots faced in a 14-9 win Saturday night at Calgary. "Chugger" also dished out a pair of assists for the Bandits, who guaranteed themselves a home playoff game with the victory. Burkholder, the Rookie of the Week, tallied seven points and fourteen loose balls recoveries in the weekend sweep by the Rock. He followed up a hat trick on Saturday by scoring two goals and handing out two assists Sunday afternoon in Toronto. Manning and Dietrich are eight-time honorees, while Burkholder is receiving the third weekly award of his short career. -30- |
