Kelusky pots eight, named Player of the WeekRoughneck groom-to-be leads rout of Rock; Patterson, Bateman honoredR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Forget the dinnerware from Macy's -- the National Lacrosse League feted Tracey Kelusky's wedding with hardware. The league today named Kelusky as its Overall Player of the Week for Week Sixteen, following the Roughneck captain's ten-point showing Sunday afternoon. Minnesota Swarm teammates Nick Patterson and Ryder Bateman picked up the NLL's other awards. The announcement was made at the same time that Kelusky and long-time girlfriend Emily Abrahamson were tying the knot at the Treasure Island resort in Las Vegas. (For those who might be curious, Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant was the best man.) On Sunday, though, the Pengrowth Saddledome was Kelusky's personal treasure island. Battling an illness which almost kept him out of action, Kelusky scored eight goals and dished out two assists in the Roughnecks' 20-12 rout of the Toronto Rock. Kelusky, not surprisingly, also received Offensive Player of the Week honors. Patterson, the Defensive Player of the Week, made 45 saves and allowed just twelve goals in the Swarm's 14-12 home win over Philadelphia on Friday night. It was Patterson's first appearance since injuring his knee on 5 March. Bateman claimed Rookie of the Week honors by tallying three goals and an assist in the win over Philadelphia. This marks the fifth time that Kelusky has been named the Overall Player of the Week and sixth time he's bagged a weekly award. Patterson and Bateman are each making their second career appearance on the Top Players list. -30- |
