Buffalo Bandits netminder Steve Dietrich was named today as the Aquis Goaltender of the Year in balloting among the National Lacrosse League's governors, general managers and head coaches.

Previous Winners:
2004 Gord Nash
       Colorado Mammoth
2003 Pat O'Toole
       Rochester K'Hawks
2002 Rob Blasdell
       Albany Attack
2001 Bob Watson
       Toronto Rock

Dietrich led the league in save percentage (78.9 percent) and goals against average (10.89), tallying a 9-4 record for the Bandits, who went 11-5 overall and finished second in the Eastern Division.

"This award was well deserved," Bandits general manager Kurt Silcott said. "[Dietrich] finished the regular season ranked first in goals against and in save percentage, which are the true tests of a goaltender’s performance.

"If you look at his numbers against playoff teams, they are even more impressive. "

"Chugger" is the Bandits' alltime leader in wins (23) and saves (1879). His 4063 career saves -- including stints with Baltimore, Detroit and Rochester -- rank second only to Philadelphia's Dallas Eliuk for the most in league history.

Aquis, which sponsored the Goaltender of the Year award, is the league's official sports drink.

The end-of-season awards announcements continue tomorrow with the Les Bartley Award (Coach of the Year).
