A day after winning the Les Bartley Award as the National Lacrosse League's Coach of the Year, Arizona Sting head coach Bob Hamley was named today as the Vonage General Manager of the Year.

Previous Winners:
2004 Johnny Mouradian
       San Jose
2003 Kurt Silcott
       Buffalo
2002 Dave Evans
       Vancouver

Hamley is the first person in NLL history to win both awards, which are voted on by the league's governors, general managers, and head coaches.

Hamley not only guided the Sting to a 9-7 record and a first-ever playoff berth this season, he helped assemble the team through drafts, trades and free agent signings.

"Hammer's" most notable trade this past season came in March, when he pried second-year star Craig Conn away from the Minnesota Swarm for two first-round draft choices.

It's hardly the only move he's made. In fact, of the roster he inherited when he became the team's head coach in September 2002, only forwards Dan Dawson and Pat Maddelena, defenseman Peter Lough and goaltender Mike Miron remain.

"Bob is an experienced general manager who made great acquisitions this season that enabled us to reach the championship game without sacrificing the future of the franchise," Sting governor Douglas Moss said.

"He has assembled a young and talented team that will be a contender for years to come."

Arizona, which boasts the league's second-youngest roster, will play for the NLL Champion's Cup next Saturday at Toronto.

The awards parade rolls on all of next week, though, including Monday's selection of the Executive of the Year.

Vonage, the official phone company of the NLL, sponsored today's award.
