Less than a week after approving Edmonton, the National Lacrosse League's board of governors has given the green light to Portland.

The board voted Monday to admit Portland as its twelfth member franchise, to begin play in 2006. An official announcement is due Wednesday at the Rose Garden, where the unnamed team will play.

"I think it has a great chance to be a great success," Rose Garden general manager Mike Scanlon told the (Portland) Oregonian for an article which ran Saturday.

"We wouldn't enter into it if we didn't have a chance to be a great success."

While Global Spectrum, which runs the Rose Garden and is a partner with the Philadelphia Wings, will have a hand in operating Portland's team, the managing partner is a 24-year-old clothing designer from San Francisco, according to the Oregonian.

Angela Batinovich, creator of the Bat's Daughter line which is sold in boutiques nationwide, will also be the majority owner. Her father (Robert), brother (Andrew) and a family friend (Wallace Krone) have also invested in the team.
