If team officials get their way, the National Lacrosse League's expansion franchise in Edmonton will be known as the Rush, the Edmonton Sun reported today.

NLL lawyers and executives are studying the name and could give approval tomorrow, one day ahead of a scheduled Thursday press conference to announce the name (and perhaps a logo, too).

The holdup is that there is already a professional team with the name "Rush" -- Chicago's entry in the Arena Football League.

If the AFL team complains of trademark infringement, NLL Edmonton has two alternatives ready to go, managing partner Craig Anstead said.

"It has to be determined if [Rush] is unique," Anstead told the Sun. "If there's only one major team that uses it and it is deemed unique to them, then it could be a problem.

"But there's a chance Chicago couldn't care less if we use it. From our point of view it's a bit ridiculous, but we understand."

The team is also expected to introduce two new members of its front office on Thursday.

A.J. Jomha, head coach of the Edmonton Miners (Junior A), is to be the team's director of lacrosse operations, while Duane Vienneau, venue manager at Northlands Park and a player in seemingly every NLL expansion/relocation foray into Edmonton, would land the job of team president.
