Walt Christianson named Stealth head coachReplaces Mouradian in second chance at coaching debutR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Sometimes you do get a second chance to make a first impression. Walt Christianson, who missed out on coaching the Vancouver Ravens when they folded just weeks before the 2005 season, was named today as the new head coach of the San Jose Stealth. Christianson replaces Johnny Mouradian, who stepped aside after two seasons, including a dismal 4-12 campaign this past season. Mouradian will remain as general manager, though. "I’m very excited to join the Stealth organization," Christianson said. "I look forward to working with the players and the management staff in San Jose. We have a strong nucleus of guys coming back as well as some solid goaltending. It’s a great team." Christianson comes over from Colorado, where he was an assistant coach the past two seasons, the latter following Vancouver's aborted attempt to compete in 2005. Prior to that, Christianson was an assistant coach on Chris Hall's staff in Calgary. Although he will be making his NLL head coaching debut in the Stealth's season opener, Christianson is no stranger to the job. He guided the Victoria Shamrocks (Western Lacrosse Association) to the 2003 Mann Cup championship and is a three-time WLA Coach of the Year. -30- |
