Reebok signs on as NLL's official outfitterApparel company to supply jerseys, gloves, shoes; sticks debut in '07R.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The National Lacrosse League today announced a multi-year partnership with Reebok, in which the apparel company will become the league's official equipment, uniform and footwear provider. Reebok also becomes the exclusive licensee of official NLL apparel such as replica jerseys, shirts, and hats, with merchandise available at all eleven NLL arenas and in selected retail locations. "Today marks a historic day in our league and I think it also marks a historic day in the sport of lacrosse," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said. "[The Reebok contract] is probably the largest deal that has ever been done in any part of lacrosse." Reebok will supply all uniforms, shoes and protective equipment (including helmets, gloves, and pads) for the upcoming season, and plans to begin supplying sticks in 2007. Reebok does not presently manufacture lacrosse sticks, and it is unclear whether the company would develop its own line or purchase an existing stick maker. All players will be required to use the Reebok equipment, regardless of existing contracts with other manufacturers. In addition to the uniforms and equipment, Reebok becomes the title sponsor of NLL's "Shoot 'n Scoop" skills competition for children ages nine to fourteen. -30- |
