Despite loss, Conn wins as Player of WeekArizona forward scores eight goals in defeat; Patterson, Carey honoredR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Arizona Sting forward Craig Conn was named yesterday as the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week for Week Six. Conn was joined on the Top Players list by Colorado Mammoth forward Dan Carey and Minnesota Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson. Conn, also selected as the Offensive Player of the Week, scored eight goals and dished out three assists in the Sting's 18-17 overtime loss to Colorado on Friday, the highest-scoring sudden-death game in two years. Carey, playing on the other side of that game, earned Rookie of the Week honors by tallying a goal and seven assists. He also scooped up seven loose balls. Patterson, the Defensive Player of the Week, made 40 saves on 46 shots faced as Minnesota defeated Edmonton in a 7-6 defensive struggle Friday night. Patterson, now 3-0 on the season, shut out the Rush on the power play (no goals in eight opportunties). This is the third Weekly award for Conn and the second time he has been named as the Overall recipient. Patterson has been honored three previous times, Carey never before. -30- |
