Grant chosen as NLL Player of the Week

Seven goals in Hawks' 19-16 win; Nash, McCready, Jacobs honored

The National Lacrosse League has announced the Week Nine player awards. Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant was named both the Overall Player of the Week and the Offensive Player of the Week. Colorado Mammoth goaltender Gee Nash earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, Pat McCready of the Buffalo Bandits was named Transition Player of the Week and Chicago Shamrox forward Cody Jacobs was named Rookie of the Week.

Grant earned both the Overall and Offensive Player of the Week Awards for Week Nine. Grant led Rochester to a 19-16 victory over the Arizona Sting on Saturday at Blue Cross Arena. Grant scored seven goals and dished out two assists for nine points in the victory. The veteran scored two goals on the power play, two goals while shorthanded and scooped up three loose balls while leading Rochester to its fifth straight win.

Nash turned away 38 shots and allowed only six goals in Colorado's 13-7 home win over the Portland LumberJax on Saturday. Nash played 51:56 of the game. He collected eleven loose balls in the victory.

McCready was named the Transition Player of the Week for his performance in a 13-12 home win over the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday. McCready scored four points for the Bandits on a goal and three assists and also collected seven loose balls.

Chicago Shamrox forward Cody Jacobs was named Rookie of the Week for Week Nine. Jacobs scored four goals and added an assist for five points in a 19-11 home loss to Minnesota. Jacobs scored one goal on the power play and collected five loose balls.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's thirteen member clubs.
