Edmonton awarded 2008 All Star GameRush to host midseason showcase next MarchR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Earlier this week, the National Lacrosse League awarded the 2008 All Star Game to the Edmonton Rush. Edmonton will host the game on Sunday, 16 March 2008, at Rexall Place, marking the fourth time since the All Star Game was reinstituted in 2004 that a Western Division venue will be used. "The city of Edmonton and the fans of the Rush have shown great support for their team in its first two seasons," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said. "The Rush have quickly become an important part of the sports landscape in Edmonton, the City of Champions. It is with great honor that we award the opportunity to showcase the best lacrosse players in the world in Edmonton in 2008." Rush owner Bruce Urban seemed as interested in showcasing the city. "We are thrilled that the best players in the NLL will be here for 2008 All-Star Game and we intend on showing them what many people already know -- that Edmonton is one of the best cities anywhere in the world and when it comes to hosting major events, it is done in a first-class manner," Urban said. The All Star Game will continue in its current format of Eastern Division vs. Western Division, the alignment which has been in use since 2004. -30- |
