Watson honored for second straight week"Whipper" nets Defensive - again; Dawson picked as OverallNLL Press Release Toronto Rock goaltender Bob Watson was named the National Lacrosse League's Defensive Player of the Week for Week Fourteen, his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Dan Dawson of the Arizona Sting was named Overall and Offensive Player of the Week, Mike McLellan of the New York Titans was named Rookie of the Week and Brett Bucktooth of the Buffalo Bandits was named Transition Player of the Week. Dawson led the Sting to two wins this past weekend, beating the Colorado Mammoth 14-8 in Colorado on Friday and then defeating the San Jose Stealth 10-9 at home on Saturday. Against Colorado, Dawson scored two goals and added seven assists, for nine points, and scooped up one loose ball. In the victory over San Jose, Dawson scored four goals and three assists for seven points and collected four loose balls. The Sting clinched a playoff berth this past weekend. Watson led the Rock to a 15-6 victory over the Philadelphia Wings on Friday. He recorded 47 saves and allowed only six goals in the victory. The veteran also recorded an assist and scooped up a loose ball. McLellan scored three goals and added an assist for four points and collected four loose balls in the Titans' come-from-behind 11-10 win over Edmonton. While trailing by one with only 22 seconds remaining in the contest, McLellan scored the game tying goal. Bucktooth scored five points on three goals and two assists for five points while helping the Bandits defeat the Chicago Shamrox 15-10 on Saturday. Bucktooth also collected three loose balls as Buffalo secured their fifth straight victory. The Bandits clinched a playoff berth this weekend. The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's thirteen member clubs. -30- |
